Airport Tips & Tricks for Stress-Free Travel – A Study Abroad Starter Pack

As September intake admissions come to a close, students around the world are gearing up for one of the most exciting chapters of their lives, that is, studying abroad. Alongside the excitement of receiving your visa and packing your bags, comes the thrill (and sometimes nerves) of your very first solo international journey. From navigating busy airports to clearing immigration and settling into a new country, there’s a lot to take in. At Entrifly, we believe your journey doesn’t begin when classes start, it begins the moment you choose your study destination and book that first flight.  Here’s our tips to make your journey easy and smooth.

  • Start Early, Travel Easy: One of the biggest mistakes first-time travellers make is underestimating how long airport formalities can take. We recommend reaching the airport at least 3.5 to 4 hours before your international flight. This gives you ample time to check in, drop off your baggage, clear immigration, and pass through security without rushing. You’ll also have time to grab a bite, recharge your devices, or simply take a moment to breathe before the big journey ahead.
  • Keep Your Documents in Order: Your travel documents are your passport to peace of mind. Keep them all together in a transparent folder or file – this includes your passport, visa, university offer letter, accommodation confirmation, flight ticket, insurance documents, and your arrival plan. Take photos or scanned copies and upload them to your email or cloud storage. It’s a small step that can save you from big trouble.
  • Smart Packing = Smooth Journey: Pack light, but pack right. Stick to your airline’s baggage limits to avoid last-minute repacking or excess charges. Label your bags with your name, university, and phone number. In your carry-on, include essentials like chargers, a power bank (carry-on only), medications, travel-sized toiletries, a hoodie, snacks, and of course, your important documents.
  • Use Travel Apps to Stay Ahead: Leverage technology for a smoother experience. Download your airline’s app for updates, check-in, and boarding passes. Install travel-friendly apps like Google Maps, Google Translate, TripIt, and a currency converter like XE. Don’t forget to enable international roaming or pick up a travel SIM card.
  • Immigration: Be Clear and Confident: Immigration is a key checkpoint. So be honest, polite, and prepared. If you’re asked why you’re travelling, respond confidently: “I’m travelling to [Country] to study [Course] at [University].” Keep your offer letter and visa ready, and make sure your arrival address and contact details are easy to access. Our pre-departure sessions will walk you through this step, so there are no surprises.
  • Stay Hydrated, Pack Snacks: Bring dry, airport-safe snacks like energy bars, biscuits, and nuts in your hand luggage. Avoid liquids over 100ml in your carry-on. Instead, carry an empty bottle and refill it after security. Staying hydrated on long flights helps fight fatigue and jet lag.
  • Be Arrival-Ready: Before you land, make sure you know exactly where you’re going. Have your accommodation address, airport pickup plan, and university contact saved both digitally and on paper. Entrifly’s post-arrival support includes check-in guidance, orientation assistance, accommodation services and help settling into your new city, so you’re never stranded or unsure of what’s next.

At Entrifly, we don’t just help you get admission or a visa, we prepare you for the full study abroad experience.
